During and just after World War II the Swedish Air Force build two hangars deep in the mountains of airbase Göteborg-Säve. One of them is still in use, the other is being transferred into a museum of flight. The museum will open in the spring of 2006, but I had the oppurtunity of a preview in August 2005.
I was amazed by the size of the hangar and with the reunification with eight ex RNlAF Alouette III's. Below you can read and see my impression of this very interesting museum. More information about the museum can be found on their website. |

The museum is housed in the biggest of the two mountain hangars. This one is build in the fifties, has a size of 22.000 square meters and is 30 meters deep. The hangar is cut out of the mountain, but is strengthened by a concrete shell. This hangar is self contained, has two levels and is divided into several sections. All operations could take place from inside, they only needed the runway outside. | ||||||||||||||||

The museum is aimed at aviation in general. So you can find there both military and civil aircraft, consisting of jets, helicopters, ultra-lights, gliders and sport planes. Furthermore you can see aviation related things as runway lights and vehicles. Some aircraft are open for the public and some parts are showed, like a Viggen radar. Military aircraft on display are of course a Viggen and two Drakens. You can also find at least eight Dutch Alouette III's, a Dutch Navy AB-204 with mysterious bulletholes in it, a Hkp-2 and a Cessna of the Coast Guard (which has seen a short operational career). If correct, the Aeroseum should have another AB-204 and Hkp-2. Military aircraft collection as noted on 13-08-2005
