| On June the 24th 2005 Spotting Group Volkel (SGV) was invited to visit French Air Force Base Dijon-Longvic, home of EC.01.002 and EC.02.002, operating the Mirage 2000-5F. Till the Rafale will become operational in 2006, the Mirage 2000-5F is the most modern fighter of the Armée de l'Air. June the 24th was also the last day of a deployment of five Swiss F/A-18 Hornets of Payerne.
Our visit started at the ramp, were we could see the first two Hornets starting up. Next we could see the taxiing, starting and landing of some Mirage's and Hornets. Unfortunately we had the sun in our face when we were photographing near the runway. So we decided to get back to the shelter area, were we witnessed the return of some Mirage's of EC.01.002 and EC.02.002, the arrival of a Saint Dizier Alpha Jet and a static display of one Mirage 2000-5F. Later on the day we had an excellent lunch and we visited the maintenance hangars, were we got an explanation of the various systems of the Dijon Mirage. |
